Baptized

We have a little private lake in front of our house. It’s cozy and calm - a beautiful resting place for occasional ducks passings through, a cooling bath for the dogs to dip in on hot days and most importantly, one of the first projects we tackled in our forever work-in-progress beautiful home. You see, this lake is not what it used to be last year. A few weeks worth of heavy shovelling, tree and bush-cutting effort needed to take place to make it what it is now: our private oasis, our ultimate hot-weather hang-out, fully-equipped with a beach (18 tons worth of sand shovelling) and an almost entirely functioning paddle-boat (we're working on the steering!).

Last summer, once our beautiful lake was ready to accommodate entities other than wildlife, we decided to baptize it « Lake Esperanza ». I even made a sign for it, so it’s legit.

Pre-shovelled beach!

This year, it appears that there are many more baptisms to be held. Babies? you might be wondering. Well, my friend, babies is right! Thousands and thousands of babies!!

Let me explain. Better yet, let this photo do the talking.. 'cause these guys sure won’t. I guess they opted for a little more action and a little less conversation, just like Elvis intended it.

Seems like a pretty healthy relationship to me! Multiply that frisky couple by a thousand and you’ll get a pretty good idea of the general occupancy of our land.

So kids, when froggy Mommy and froggy Daddy love each other, they make babies! Tadpoles to be exact: many, many, many tadpoles.

Cutting straight to the chase, we will be sharing our lake with a few more guests than expected for the time being. Or perhaps, are they the ones who are kind enough to be sharing their lake with us? What came first? The chicken or the egg? Well, we bought the chickens and then they gave us eggs. And we bought the land with the lake.

I guess we’ll just have to share. Leo sure doesn’t seem to mind.
